Photo Chemical Machining(PCM) plays a valuable role world-wide in the production of precision parts and decorative items, mainly sheets and foils.
Photochemical Machining delivers low cost tooling, low cost modifications, prototype to production compatibility, metal properties unaffected, burr free components, identification marks at no extra cost.
1. Metal preparation
Almost any metal can undergo photochemical etching -even those that are traditionally hard to machine.
2. Pre-clean
The metal is chemically cleaned to remove debris, waxes and rolling oils.
3. Photoresist Coating/Lamination
An ultraviolet light-sensitive photoresist is applied to the metal.
4. Photoresist Processing
Ultraviolet light passes through a phototool mask of the component design, transferring it to the photoresist. The photoresist is selectively removed to expose the metal.
5. Etching
Chemical etchant is sprayed onto the sheet, dissolving the exposed metal.
6. Stripping& Inspection
The remaining photoresist is removed to reveal the final etched component.
Photo chemical machining can produce components for multiple industries, including aerospace, defense, medical, decorative and mechanical.
